Cub Scout Pack 271 - Trails End Popcorn

"About Popcorn"

Why do we sell popcorn?

To support scouting, and specifically, to support our pack. Popcorn is the primary source of funding to keep Cub Scouting going. Over 70% of the money we raise is returned to our district to support local scout units and the local council.

What does it pay for at pack 271?

Charter fees, den supplies, derby cars and regatta boats, badges, awards, trophies, go-see-its, pack events, leader training, the blue and gold banquet, and other expenses...

Does my scout need to sell?

Popcorn is the ONLY annual fundraiser that pack 271 performs. Without popcorn, there are no funds to run the pack, and the den and pack leaders already donate heavily of their time and resources. If you or your scout are uncomfortable selling door to door, that's certainly fine. Other options include SHOW AND SELL, ONLINE SALES, and SELLING AT WORK. Our pack budget was drawn up under the assumption of each scout selling $300.00 worth of Trails End Popcorn during this event. However, a $100 donation on behalf of the scout will also have the same impact on the pack budget, although the scout will not earn points towards the Trails End prizes.

If your scout participated in the Show and Sell and or Online sales, here are your totals.

If you did not participate,, please read this email, as it contains info you need to turn in your order sheets on Monday.

Now what do I do?

Good question.

First you have your final sum from your order sheet from your son's door to door sales.

You will add to that, either Show and Sell, online orders or both.  What ever total I have for you.
For example:
Let's say you have $645 in sales.  Great job!
Add $55 from your son's Show and Sell efforts equals $700 in towards prize selection.

What about the donations the boys collected at the grocery stores and from friends and family?

I will also send you your son's donation efforts in a separate email, so things don't get confused.  Remember, donation money DOES NOT go towards PRIZE SELECTION. That's why I'm not confusing everyone with donation numbers right now.... If you have any donations that you have personally collected, please when you write your ONE check to the Pack, give me a breakdown of what is popcorn and what is donation money, so I can add it to your Scout's  total for Pack recognition.  Of course, I should be able to figure it out when I compare your order to what money you turned in, but it would make my life way easier if you could tell me in a note what is what.  Thanks.... If you don't have any donation monies, no worries.

Did I hear correctly that we write one check to the pack? If so, how do we account for donations vs. sales?

Easy, just write one check made payable to Pack 271, and leave me a note which is which... thanks.  The final collection date that ALL MONEY IS TURNED IN is: DECEMBER 1st at the Den Meeting (changed from 12/8, sorry about that)

Do we wait for a confirmation from you before we choose the prize or go by our calculations?

You are now ready to make your prize selection, go for it!

So when is the last day to turn in order forms?

Monday November 3rd at the den meeting is the very last day to turn in your order forms with your prize selection.

On level 5 and above, gift cards are offered as a prize selection.  You can write in the gift card of your choice offered. You can only choose one prize per level and the gift cards are just one of the selections offered. Sorry, you don't get a prize and a gift card.

And when do we finally get to pick up the popcorn?

Popcorn pickup will be at Grace Evan on Saturday Nov. 22nd.  We don't have the exact morning time yet, stayed tuned!

Drum roll please!!  Congratulations to all of our boys who helped out in Show and Sell and online donations--you guys were awesome!!!!  And a big THANK YOU to all of the parent volunteers and leadership who who stepped up to help the pack grow!!!  You  guys are amazing!!!
